"Ai Adousai"The women’s Byzantine Choir ‘AI ADOUSAI’ was founded at the city of Volos, in November 2012 by Dr. Sevi Mazera. She holds a PhD in Byzantine Musicology and a Diploma in Byzantine – Greek Orthodox Church music, as well as a Diploma in Piano (soloist since 1992). The choir consists of women chanters, very well educated in the art of the Greek Orthodox- Byzantine chanting. The creation of the choir was mainly based on the idea of the detailed study and interpretation of the repertoire of the ecclesiastical compositions (14th- 21st century). It is very important to highlight the fact that the choir consists exclusively by women, reflecting an old byzantine tradition known to us only through byzantine musical manuscripts. It is the first time that such a choir appears in modern Greece. Main purposes of the choir are the research, study and presentation in Greece and abroad of compositions of byzantine and post-byzantine composers, under the guidance and supervision of the founder, Dr. Sevi Mazera. |
