The vocal exploration workshop will operate with a focus on the expressive capacities of the human voice both as self-powered musical instrument and as a tool in the music poetics of speech. The body's multiple sounding and resonating potentialities will be explored through group gatherings, while participants will delve in to a close examination of the coexistence of lyrics and melody. Finally participants will work on models of melodies and lyrics which will serve as foundation to improvisations. The workshop welcomes singers of any genre, lyricists, songsmiths, improvisers. Instrumentalists who are interested in contemporary greek songs are also welcome. |
In experiential learning rhythm and movement Kostas Anastasiadis leads us to a mural of traditional and modern styles to serve as a valuable gateway to escape the past, to the absolute delight in the understanding of time and history of rhythm.The workshop is open to all kinds of artists, improvisers, dancers and any student or professional who wants to expand his musical horizons . |
He has participated actively in many Vocal masterclasses taught by prominent teachers, such as Kurt Equiluz, Delores Ziegler, Anna Tomowa - Sintow and Michael Chance. Nicholas Spanos studied with Aris Christofellis in Greece. He furthered his studies at the University of Maryland School of Music (U.S.A.) in the studio of Linda Mabbs, as a scholar of the “Friends of Music” society of Athens; he also held an assistantship from the University. He graduated with a Master’s Degree on Voice / Opera Performance. His higher education includes a Postgraduate Course in Lied & Oratorio with Charles Spencer in the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. |
Singer, lyricist, and songsmith Maria Thoidou was born in Florina. She studied music and classical singing at the New Conservatoire of Thessaloniki, at the Music Academy of Köln and the Academy of Music and Drama of Leipzig. She is also a graduate of the Department of Infant School Teachers of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Maria has composed and performed her own music since 1994 to rave acclaim from the contemporary Greek music scene. She has recorded 4 personal CDs in Greece and abroad and has collaborated, both live and on record, with reputable artists such as Socrates Malamas, Nikos Papazoglou, Loudovikos ton Anogeion, Thymios Atzakas, Antonis Aniseggos, Socrates Sinopoulos, Costas Theodorou, Goran Bregovic, B.Chemirani, H.Chisholm, Efren Lopez, Savinna Giannatou and many others. In collaboration with ensembles such as the Armos Ensemble, the Tropos Quartett and Cornucopia Berlin she has appeared in several European music festivals and has broadcast for the BBC and the German, Dutch and Belgian state radios. She is an active music educator in schools, conservatoires and cultural centres in Greece and abroad. Following a decade of travelling around Europe as well as living in Berlin, she recently returned to Greece, where, in conjunction with professional appearances, she also works as an active member of the Specialised Scientific Personel of the Thessalia University, where she co-ordinates students’ music ensembles. |

He has been acclaimed for his appearance in opera, oratorio and recital. Both Greek and international Press has commented on his vocal and stage presence very favorably. He has collaborated often with the National Opera of Greece, Opera Lorraine, Athens and Thessaloniki Megaron Concert Hall, Athens State Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Orchestra, National Theatre of Greece, Orchestra of Colours, Bach Sinfonia (U.S.A.), Denmark Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Stuttgart, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Les Talens Lyriques, Armonia Atenea, Ensemble Alraune, in Greece as well as worldwide. For many years he has been a regular collaborator of the “Ex Silentio”, “Latinitas nostra” and “Pandolfis Consort Wien” Early Music Ensembles. He was been awarded the “Best Young Artist of the Year” award by the Association of Theater and Music Critics of Greece, for his interpretation of the role of Arsamene in Händel’s “Serse” in the National Opera of Greece, First Prize at the “TECHNI” National Competition for Lyric Singers, held in Thessaloniki, as well as a few more awards for his participation in recordings, which include the CD recording of Händel’s “Oreste” (2004) and “Tamerlano” (2006) by the German label MDG as well as a CD based on Metastasio's “Olimpiade” libretto, with the Venice Baroque Orchestra (V.B.O., 2011) for NAÏVE Records. In 2014 he was the first to revive the role of Ruggiero in Ristori's "Le Fate" with Ensemble Alraune, a production that was made into DVD. He lives in Vienna, Austria.-
